Why a board is measured on this and not on its listing count

Every board in this category advertises its size, and size is the one thing about a job board that cannot be checked from outside it. Whether a listing states the pay can be: the figure is on the page or it is not, and anybody can open the same page and count.

So that is what was counted, and the figures below deliberately do not divide by what a board says it holds. A board claiming 1,456 listings where 10 were read is 10 listings read, not a measurement of 1,456 — dividing by the claim would produce a much more dramatic number and a worthless one. Every percentage here is over what was actually read, and the board’s own figure is shown in the same row.

How was this measured?

Each board's own listing index was fetched once, as a browser would, and the saved page was counted. A pay field is a dedicated compensation element on the card. Pay anywhere also counts a figure inside the description text. Scripts were stripped first, so a board's own FAQ copy could not be read as a listing's pay, and each card was bounded by the next so nothing below the feed was counted as part of it.

Is No Varnish included in its own comparison?

Yes, on the same day, by the same rule, from the same kind of fetch, and sorted in the same table by the same key. It is left out of the figure published about the other boards, because a board counting itself into a statistic about its competitors would be the kind of arithmetic this page exists to object to.
