No Varnish is a job board for people who build with AI tools. It has one rule, and almost everything else here follows from it.
Every listing publishes a real number
Compensation is a required field. A range is fine, an hourly rate is fine, and a fixed price for a one-off piece of work is fine. “Competitive” is not a number, and a listing that offers it instead of a figure is rejected in review.
This is the whole product. A board where pay is optional becomes a board where the good listings are the ones that opted in, and reading it means guessing about the rest.
Every listing is read by a human
Nothing appears automatically. A submitted listing sits in a review queue and is approved, sent back, or rejected by a person. That is also where the pay rule is enforced, because it is a judgement about whether a figure is real rather than a check that a field is non-empty.
The order is chronological, and nothing else
The board sorts by approval time, newest first. There is no relevance score and no quality ranking. A ranked feed on a board that also sells placement is a paid feed with extra steps, and the ordering is the thing that makes it worth returning to.
Promoted listings exist and cost money. They are pinned, capped, and labelled as promoted everywhere they appear — feed, landing page, and anywhere else. A promoted listing you cannot identify is an advertisement pretending to be a result.
Some listings are sourced, and say so
A few roles are copied here by hand from elsewhere, with a written summary and a link to the original. Those carry whatever the original published, which occasionally means no figure at all, and they are labelled as sourced so it is clear which is which. The mandatory-pay rule governs what employers post here; it cannot rewrite what someone else published somewhere else.
Numbers on this site are counted
Every figure on every page — how many roles are open, how many companies are hiring, how many of them quote pay — is computed from the database when the page is requested. None of them is typed into the markup. On a board that exists to stop people rounding the truth about money, an invented statistic would be the worst thing on the page.
What the AI does, and does not do
You can search by typing a sentence instead of operating filters. A model reads that sentence and fills in the board’s own filter object; the ordinary query then runs against the database exactly as it would have if you had clicked the filters yourself.
It never ranks a listing, never writes one, and never sees a row of data. Its output is restricted to filter values that already exist and is re-validated before it becomes a query. The chips showing what your sentence was read as are there so a misreading is visible rather than silent.
What this board deliberately does not do
- No accounts for people looking for work. Saved searches and alerts run on a link emailed to you, with nothing to sign up for and no password to forget.
- No escrow and no payment handling between employers and builders. The value stops at the match.
- No automated scraping of other boards. Sourced listings are copied by hand, summarised, and attributed.
- No hiding a listing because it was reported. Reports are read by a person; no group of users can take a listing down by volume.
Posting
